Food and Drink

As you would expect from an area of such fertile land and quality environment, Somerset has a proud tradition for food and drink production that is enhancing some great brands.

From Somerset cider to Cheddar cheese, we know how to produce food and drink that tickles taste buds the world over.

Running through our strong food and beverage cluster is a passion for quality ingredients and a commitment to sustainability. These values can be seen in so many of our companies, like Yeo Valley, a family farm and dairy business that’s grown into Britain’s largest organic brand with farms across the Mendips and production sites across Somerset employing more than 1,700 people.

The very latest in food production can be seen at places such as Charlie Bigham’s Food Production Campus in a former quarry in Dulcote, near Wells, where they make their best-selling dishes including Fish Pie and Chicken Tikka Masala.

Somerset has a network of more than 8,500 farmers and food producers – the highest number of any UK county, so whether it’s innovations in agritech and farming or food production facilities, Somerset is the natural home for your next project

Somerset is poised to take advantage of the huge growth in agritech innovation. This includes R&D projects and collaborations between academia and agriculture. Examples include the South West Dairy Development Centre, Agri-EPI’s ‘dairy farm of the future’ where development, testing and demonstration of new technologies is supporting sustainable, efficient and healthy milk production.
